Sixth Book Of 2008

I finished off Silver Pigs by Lindsey Davis just last night and I wasn’t that impressed with it. Usually I’m a sucker for books set in ancient Rome. I really like Pompeii by Robert Harris, listened to hours and hours of Roman history audio books, and loved the Rome TV show. This however was mediocre at best. I got it used, so I wasn’t too unhappy. However, I also bought the third book in the series and that made me sad. I wasn’t terribly upset that I’d read this book as it was an easy read and went by fast, but I don’t think I’ll be reading any more of the series.

The characters in the book all ran together. Their personalities were not distinct and had a very similar voice in the dialogue. I couldn’t tell who was talking at any one time. The attention to historical detail was relatively good, but certainly not the best that I’ve seen. All-in-all, one of the worst books that I’ve read this year.

Score: 37/100
