Table Football

I never played table football when I lived in America. No surprise there. It’s not big and it’s always referred to as fussball, which is after the German term for it. When they bought a table at work, it certainly wasn’t an instant hit and literally took years to catch on. But as the crowd of people grew and I was quitting my MMO (again!) I decided to give it a try. And I was instantly good, beloved by the masses, and heralded as a champion!

Wait… back that up. I was TERRIBLE. Truly awful. I couldn’t hit the ball half the time when it was in front of my player. I had no power in my wrist action (still don’t have much!) But I didn’t let that stop me… this time. This time I played and lost and practiced (alone if needed!) and played and lost and lost and have now begun to win a few. It’s taken months (after a brief relapse into an MMO (not WOW, no one recovers from a WOW addiction)) to become one of the bottom third players in the suite, but not one that other players actively avoid being on my time. However, I’m not to the point where anyone dreads being on the other team against me.

As with many of these things, there’s been a tournament. I got in late for MMO-related reasons and didn’t have a premier partner. Not that he wasn’t good, but he was well out of practice (due to a shiny, new WOW addiction) and so was I. So we’ve been up against some monster teams and been losing, but hopefully next time they’ll even the teams up a bit. There’s a few teams of just Table Football noobs at the bottom of the tournament table and it’s a shame that they don’t really have a chance.

But it’s all fun. The only thing is… We need another table. There’s well over 20 people in our league and one table is just not cutting it right now!
